Statewide Tornado Drill

Tornadoes are violently rotating columns of air that extend from a thunderstorm to the ground. Tornadoes can destroy buildings, flip cars, and create deadly flying debris. Make sure you have a plan and practice it by participating in the Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday March 20, 2024 at 9:50 a.m.

Ohio Total Solar Eclipse - April 8, 2024

On Monday, April 8, 2024, people within a 124-mile-wide band in the State of Ohio will experience a total solar eclipse.  A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon appears to totally obscure the Sun.  Areas of Franklin County will find themselves within the path of totality shortly after 3:00 pm. Prepare now to view this rare and spectacular event.

Franklin County Hazards - Flooding

Flooding occurs when water accumulates on normally dry land, often due to heavy rains, rapid snowmelt, or infrastructure failures like dam or levee breaches. Flooding can occur suddenly or gradually and cause significant damage.  Flooding is the most frequent natural disaster and pose the greatest risk in Franklin County, with flash floods being particularly dangerous due to their swift onset and destructive force.
